Mössbauer spectra in external field of highly substituted aluminous hematites

Six synthetic α-Fe 2O 3 powder samples with Al substituted for Fe in the range 9.5–28.1 mol% have been studied by Mössbauer spectroscopy at 4 K in an external field of 60 kOe applied parallel to the γ-ray beam. These samples are all in the weakly ferromagnetic state and the magnetic moment has a str...

Description
Summary:Six synthetic α-Fe 2O 3 powder samples with Al substituted for Fe in the range 9.5–28.1 mol% have been studied by Mössbauer spectroscopy at 4 K in an external field of 60 kOe applied parallel to the γ-ray beam. These samples are all in the weakly ferromagnetic state and the magnetic moment has a strong tendency to align with the external field, causing the spins to align almost perpendicular. There are small but significant correlations of canting angle and width of the observed hyperfine field distribution with AI content. However, the alignment is neither complete nor uniform in any of these samples.
