Summary:Photoelectron spectra of the 4 f lines of all elements in the actinide series from actinium to einsteinium were obtained with Mg Kα as the excitation source. Samples were prepared as oxides and, for most elements, as fluorides. Binding energies for the 4 flevels, which are most suitable for ESCA studies, are given, and peculiarities not predicted by theory are noted for the spin-orbit splitting.
