Description
Summary:The role of pionic degrees of freedom in photoreactions on nuclei is investigated. It is shown that the enhancement of the nuclear photoabsorption dipole cross section, given by exchange effects due to virtual pions, is accompanied by a parallel, almost compensating, hindrance with respect to the free case in the photoproduction of real pions above threshold.
