Summary: | An improvement of the variational method in the lagrangian formalism of the lattice gauge theory is proposed. A fluctuation term is introduced explicitly into the theory to account for the correlation between the plaquettes, surmounting the drawback of decoupling all the plaquette variables in the earlier variational treatment. The SU(2) Wilson pure gauge model is analysed in this improved method, and the undesired first order phase transition obtained earlier is removed. |
