Summary:We study the effects on nucleosynthesis of possible oscillations between ν e, ν μ or ν τ and a non-interacting (“sterile”) neutrino state. Taking into account the coherent interactions of the neutrinos with the primeval plasma is shown to be essential. Nucleosynthesis most likely excludes a significant portion of the mixing parameter space. The relevance to the solar neutrino problem of these considerations is discussed.
