Summary: | The parton model for inclusive semileptonic B decays is developed and compared with the results of heavy quark effective theory (HQET) and other methods for calculating lepton spectra. A distribution function, taken from production experiments, is used to describe the matrix elements of the dominant bilocal operator. The parton model gives an electron spectrum which is in excellent agreement with experiment at all measured electron energies and is well behaved at the endpoint where it may serve as a useful model. Moreover, it allows the calculation of additional spectra in several variables, which are computed and shown to vary strongly with the hadronic energy. |
