The infrared spectra of some para-substituted benzonitriles

The infrared spectra of a series of ten para-substituted benzonitriles have been studied in the range from 5000 to 400 cm −1 and in some cases down to about 300 cm −1. A number of bands, common to most or all of the disubstituted species, have been correlated with earlier benzonitrile assignments an...

Description
Summary:The infrared spectra of a series of ten para-substituted benzonitriles have been studied in the range from 5000 to 400 cm −1 and in some cases down to about 300 cm −1. A number of bands, common to most or all of the disubstituted species, have been correlated with earlier benzonitrile assignments and an attempt has been made to identify certain frequencies with vibrational modes that are centered in the substituents. The spectral features that cannot be assigned are listed in tabular form.
