Description
Summary:The magnetic field dependence of the thermal conductivity of MnCl 2-4H 2O reveals strong magnon-phonon coupling at temperatures well below the Néel temperature, but very weak spin-phonon coupling above this temperature. It appears that modulation of the exchange interaction is responsible for the strong coupling and this mechanism is absent above the transition temperature. Thus coupling of phonons to magnetic states of ordered and disordered magnetic systems differ qualitatively.
