Description
Summary:It can be shown that the adiabatic and Hartree-Fock approximations allow one to define a unique electronic charge distribution for each atomic nucleus in a crystal and that this distribution moves rigidly with the nucleus in the harmonic approximation. The dynamics of the crystal can be shown to depend solely on the electrostatic interactions of these rigid ions.
