Observation of electric resonance ‘beating of beats’ in a molecular beam maser

The observation of the electric dipole analogue of the ‘beating of beats’ phenomenon of n.m.r. is reported. A 14NH 3 molecular beam maser operating on the split main line of the J = 1, K = 1 inversion transition is used to demonstrate the effect.
