Improved Hanle effect measurement technique for fast ions

An improved averaging technique for use with foil-excited fast ions is applied to a Hanle-effect measurement of the mean lifte τ of the 4p 2F° 7 2 level of Ar II. The result is τ = 9.5 ± 0.5 nsec. Other coherence measurements are are also reported.
