A note on the heating of the cold plasma blanket in a linear fusion reactor

On the basis of a simple model it is demonstrated that the Q-factor of present-day conceptual linear reactors is not enhanced by α-particle heating of the cold plasma blanket surrounding the fusioning plasma column.
