Helical pitch change at the phase transition blue phase to cholesteric
In several cholesterogenic liquid crystals the pitch ratio of the cholesteric and the blue phase (BP) at the phase transition temperature has been found to be constant within the limit of error, independent of molecular structure. By means of a molecular theory of chiral liquid crystals this behavio...

Summary: | In several cholesterogenic liquid crystals the pitch ratio of the cholesteric and the blue phase (BP) at the phase transition temperature has been found to be constant within the limit of error, independent of molecular structure. By means of a molecular theory of chiral liquid crystals this behaviour can be explained in terms of a geometrical effect, indicating a tilted helical structure for the BP. |
