Surface tension of helium II and the order parameter extrapolation length

Recent experimental results on the temperature dependence of the surface tension of liquid 4He near and below the γ-point are discussed. Description
Summary:Recent experimental results on the temperature dependence of the surface tension of liquid 4He near and below the γ-point are discussed. It is shown that these results can be used for determination of the extrapolation length l, entering the boundary condition ldΨ dz =Ψ for the superfluid order parameter Ψ= η exp( i∅) at the helium II surfaces. It is found from comparison with the experimental data that l=22±2 A ̊ in the case of the helium II-vapour interface, and l > 5 Å for the interface between liquid and solid helium.
