Description
Summary:This study was undertaken to determine phenotypic and genotypic correlation coefficients among three assumed yield components in guar, Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub., and to analyse their interrelationships through path coefficient analyses. Genotypic correlations between seeds/pod and seed yield and between pods/plant and seed yield were high and positive. The genotypic correlation of weight/100 seed and seed yield was low and positive. Genetic path coefficient analyses showed that pods/plant and weight/100 seed were important factors in determining seed yield and that seeds/pod was least important of the three components. Progress in breeding by selecting for components of yield, rather than yield per se, would probably be limited by the high negative genotypic correlation between weight/100 seed and pods/plant. Other studies involving yield component analyses in guar are summarized and implications of the results are discussed.
