Summary: | The semi-empirical approach of Khare and Kumar [1] has been employed to investigate the ionization cross section per unit energy range and the total ionization cross section of the water molecule at various proton impact energies varying from ionization threshold to 10 MeV. Peaks appearing in the experimental differential ionization cross sections have been explained as due to Auger processes. Further on these cross sections are employed to investigate the loss function and the mean energy expended per ion pair. The results so obtained are found to be in fair agreement with the available experimental and theoretical data. |
