Reduction of hysteresis losses in NbTi ribbons by a bias field orthogonal to the varying magnetic field

Hysteresis losses are reduced by an order of magnitude when the optimum bias magnetic field H // is applied along the length of a ribbon sample subjected to a varying transverse magnetic field directed along its width. A simple empirical model is presented.
