Electron and crystal structure of molecular complexes and ion-radical salts based on tetraphenyl- and octamethylenetetrathiafulvalene

Some ion-radical salts and charge-transfer complexes based on octamethylene- and tetraphenyltetrathiafulvalene are described. D.c. conductivities measured for pellet samples lie between 10 −8 and 10 −6 ohm −1 cm −1. An X-ray study of tetraphenyltetrathiafulvalene-iodine complex (Ph) 4-TTFI 5 was car...

Description
Summary:Some ion-radical salts and charge-transfer complexes based on octamethylene- and tetraphenyltetrathiafulvalene are described. D.c. conductivities measured for pellet samples lie between 10 −8 and 10 −6 ohm −1 cm −1. An X-ray study of tetraphenyltetrathiafulvalene-iodine complex (Ph) 4-TTFI 5 was carried out. This structure contains two-dimensional networks of iodine. Interplanar distances between neighbouring networks are more than twice the sum of van der Vaals radii of the iodine atoms. The IR-spectra of the iodine containing complexes and salts show anomalous intensive and broad absorption bands which are perhaps caused by electron-phonon inter-actions.
