Description
Summary:We use classical mechanics in a calculation of the cascade of K − mesic atoms, involving X-ray and Auger processes, assuming an initial statistical distribution between the states with different values of the orbital angular-momentum quantum number. We conclude that the properties of the cascade are not sensitive to the starting point and we obtain qualitative agreement with experiment. We also obtain a simple explanation of the X-ray selection rules obtained earlier by Martin and suggest what should be the corresponding rules for the Auger process.
