Zero three-loop beta function in the N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory

Summary: | We have calculated the beta function of the
N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory through three-loop order and find that it is zero. The calculation was performed using superspace techniques that allowed the evaluation of the complete three-loop chiral-multiplet propagator, which turns out to be much simpler than it is constrained to be by explicit supersymmetry invariance and the Slavnov-Taylor identities. This result strongly supports speculations that the theory is finite and conformally invariant order-by-order in perturbation theory. We give details of the calculations. |
