The vibrational spectra of bromoiodoacetylene force constants of six dihaloacetylenes

The i.r. spectra of bromoiodoacetylene as a vapour and in solution were recorded in the region 4000–50 cm −1, and a vapour spectrum of diiodoacetylene was obtained. Using helium-neon laser excitation, Raman spectra of bromoiodoacetylene in CS 2 and CCl 4 solutions were recorded. The five fundamental...

Description
Summary:The i.r. spectra of bromoiodoacetylene as a vapour and in solution were recorded in the region 4000–50 cm −1, and a vapour spectrum of diiodoacetylene was obtained. Using helium-neon laser excitation, Raman spectra of bromoiodoacetylene in CS 2 and CCl 4 solutions were recorded. The five fundamental frequencies were assigned and compared with the corresponding data for dichloro-, dibromo-, diiodo-, bromochloro- and chloroiodoacetylene. Certain thermodynamic functions for the six dihaloacetylenes were calculated. Force fields were derived for the six dihaloacetylenes, indicating anomalous interaction terms for those containing chlorine.
