Far-infrared features of quinoline-N-oxides: Intramolecular vibrations and hydrogen bonding
The far i.r. spectra of 14 quinoline-N-oxides have been measured between 400 and 40 cm −1. An assignment of most of the observed bands is proposed: attention is drawn to ring-skeletal vibrations and X-sensitive vibrations. The hydrogen bonding stretching vibration of their complexes with phenol abso...

Summary: | The far i.r. spectra of 14 quinoline-N-oxides have been measured between 400 and 40 cm
−1. An assignment of most of the observed bands is proposed: attention is drawn to ring-skeletal vibrations and
X-sensitive vibrations. The hydrogen bonding stretching vibration of their complexes with phenol absorbs in the range 230-130 cm
−1: in 3- and 4-substituted derivatives a linear relationship with the corresponding pyridine-N-oxides is observed. |
