Determination of the electron density from the Stark broadening of Balmer Beta-comparison between experiment and theory
Experimental Stark profiles of H β and D β have been compared to theoretical ones derived from the unified theory (VCS) and the model microfield method (MMM) at electron densities between 6.4 × 10 14 and 1.27 × 10 15 cm −3 determined independently from laser interferometry. The electron density valu...

The electron density values derived from the half-widths of the lines are found to be consistent with the values obtained from fitting the whole profile to the tabulated theoretical data in contrast to the findings of an earlier investigation of Goode and Deavor [
