Description
Summary:An experimental method is developed that permits the observation of changes in radiative losses from a low temperature inductively coupled atmospheric pressure argon plasma. It is then used to demonstrate that as a plasma deviates from excitational equilibrium, radiative losses from the near-infrared 4 s- p transition array increase. In particular, the 811.5 nm Ar I spectral line is shown to move from being trapped to being near-opticaily thin upon the introduction of an aerosol flow of argon through the center of the discharge.
