Summary:A progress report on the design of the Advanced Neutron Source is presented. This facility will have a reactor of flux approaching 10 20 neutrons m -2s -1 and a full array of experimental tools for neutron scattering, isotope production, and material irradiation. There will be a strong emphasis on beam research using cold neutrons. The power level will be about 300 MW. The estimated construction cost is $400M, with criticality scheduled for 1997.
