Description
Summary:We have investigated the low temperature specific heat of non-superfluid 4He films, less than two layers thick, adsorbed in a cylindrical geometry, Anopore membranes, and in a multiply connected geometry, Millipore filter paper. A specific heat lump, shifting to lower temperatures with increasing thickness, disappearing for superfluid coverages, is seen for both substrates. A bump is also found for 3He films in Anopore. We discuss the bump's temperature and thickness dependence.
