Summary:Scattering of electrons by plasmons in YBa 2Cu 3O 7−x is investigated as a function of oxygen content and correlated with the Karlsruhe EELS data. Using realistic energy bands we obtain a highly anisotropic acoustic plasmon branch whose existence corresponds to certain values of the Fermi energy which are in agreement with estimates for the superconducting oxide samples.
