Description
Summary:Synthesis of cordierite powders has been performed via sol-gel routes using alkoxide precursors and salts. 29Si nuclear magnetic resonance measurements allow the modification of silicon tetraorthosilicate by the hydration water molecules of the aluminium and magnesium salts used in the elaboration process to be followed. The powder characteristics have been followed by X-ray diffraction, granulometric and specific area measurements. Quasi-isothermal dilatometry leads to the conclusion that sintering proceeds through a viscous flow mechanism.
