Summary: | The effect of microdestruction of diamond-like coatings (DLC), prepared by the deposition of low energy plasma fluxes onto a cold substrate, was studied as a function of the structural state of the DLC. The acoustic emission (AE) method was used to extract information on the microdestruction of carbon coatings. Films with diamond- and graphite-like structures were used in the studies. It is shown that the microdestruction of coatings of these types under local load is accompanied by AE signals, the character of the signals being determined by the type of coating. The region of microdestruction was examined directly by optical and electron microscopies. The relationship between the character of microdestruction of carbon coatings and some special features of AE signals is discussed. |
