Extended materials based on the [Mo 6Cl 8] 4+ building block bridged by 4,4′-bipyridine

Octahedral molybdenum clusters containing labile SO 3CF 3 − ligands attached to the vertices of the octahedron were allowed to react with the linear bidentate 4,4′-bipyridine to produce microporous xerogels that exhibit size selective ion exchange. The octahedral metal cluster [Mo 6Cl 8(OsO 2CF 3) 6...

Description
Summary:Octahedral molybdenum clusters containing labile SO 3CF 3 − ligands attached to the vertices of the octahedron were allowed to react with the linear bidentate 4,4′-bipyridine to produce microporous xerogels that exhibit size selective ion exchange. The octahedral metal cluster [Mo 6Cl 8(OsO 2CF 3) 6] 2− reacts with 4,4′-bipyridene to form a jell which was dried to form an amorphous solid composed of Mo 6Cl 8 clusters linked by 4,4′-bipyridene.
