Platinum(II) diphosphine complexes containing cyclic ligands with Pt-C and Pt-O bonds

The reaction of the complex [Pt(η3-CH3CHC6H5)(dbpp)][BF4] (3a) (dbpp = Bu21P(CH2)3PBu2t wwith methyl acrylate and methyl vinyl ketone affords, respectively, [PtR(dbpp)][BF4] (R = CH2CH2CO2CH3 (4), CH2CH2COCH3 (5)), whilst the reaction between 3a and dimethylmaleate or dimethylfumarate yields [Pt{CH(...

Description
Summary:The reaction of the complex [Pt(η3-CH3CHC6H5)(dbpp)][BF4] (3a) (dbpp = Bu21P(CH2)3PBu2t wwith methyl acrylate and methyl vinyl ketone affords, respectively, [PtR(dbpp)][BF4] (R = CH2CH2CO2CH3 (4), CH2CH2COCH3 (5)), whilst the reaction between 3a and dimethylmaleate or dimethylfumarate yields [Pt{CH(CO2CH3)CH2CO(OCH3)}(dbpp)][BF4] (6). The detailed IR and NMR studies of 4–6 confirm that these complexes possess five-membereed chelate ring ligands in which platinum is bonded to a carbon and an oxygen atom. Spectroscopic data and possible mechanisms of the formation of these new complexes are discussed. The results establish that O → Pt bonding is more stable than agostic Pt…H…C bonding in these complexes.
