Summary: | The aim of this study was to characterize the contractile effect of typical 8 agonists in rat stomach fundus strip. Sprague-Dawley rats were killed by decapitation. The stomach fundus were rapidly removed and suspended in 10-ml organ baths containg an oxygenated Krebs solution and streched with an initial tension of 1 g. Changes of tension were measured isotonically with force tranducers and monitored on a polygraph. Each agonist except for cholecystokinin (CCK-8) showed a concentration-dependent contractile effect in rat stomach strips. The contractile effect of neurotensin (NT) and serotonin (5-HT) was more strongly than that of other agonists. The results indicate that NT and 5-HT can markedly elicit a contractile effect in smooth muscle cells of rat stomach. Therefore, our findings suggest that NT and 5-HT physiologically play a major role in gastric emptying. |
