Description
Summary:TJ-7 has been used for various disorders of aged people. We investigated the effects of TJ-7 on physiological and pathological alterations accompanied with aging in rats. Each of the 15 male rats from the same lot of 267 Wistar rats were scheduled to be sacrificed at the ages of 100, 200, 400 and 500days. On the age of 500days, 207 rats were divided into 3 groups, and each group was fed a normal diet or a diet containing 1% or 4% of TJ-7. And each 15 rats of each group was scheduled to be sacrificed on the age of 600, 700 and 800days. On the age of 900days, all of survived rats were sacrificed. Feeding with diets containing 1% and 4% of TJ-7 corresponded to about 300 and 1200mg/kg /day, respectively. TJ-7 affected neither body weight nor food consumption. However, deaths of the rats fed with diets containing TJ-7 were delayed. At the age of 900days, survival rate of control rats were 9.2%, whereas, those of rats fed with diets containing 1% and 4% of TJ-7 were 37.7 and 17.8%, respectively. Serum lipids(total cholesterol, triglycerides and phospholipids), serum creatinine and BUN in control rats increased markedly after the age of 600days. TJ-7 significantly suppressed these increases accompanied with aging. These results suggest that TJ-7 extended the life span of rats by improving some metabolic disorders in aged rats.
