Summary: | The diameter of single crystals growing from the melt can be monitored directly and periodically using a previously designed electric contact melt level sensor. Automatic control of the melt temperature based on data from these measurements allows one to achieve better diameter stability in the process of the automated growth of large optical and scintillation alkali halide single crystals. Crystals having a diameter of up to 600 mm and a mass over 400 kg have been grown. |
