Summary: | The design and construction details of a versatile stationary planar electrode for electrochemical studies are presented. The working surface of this electrode can be modified by threading a new tip to the shaft. Several interchangeable tips have been constructed using different electrode materials such as platinum, gold, pyrolytic graphite, and silver. A standard polishing procedure for the electrode yields a reproducible electrode surface for each type of tip.
The oxidation of oriented silver surfaces in chloride solution is used as an example of the way in which this electrode concept can be used to reproduce electrode surfaces even on a micro scale. |
