Non-equilibrium thermodynamic studies of electro-kinetic effects
Experiments for the measurement of electro-osmosis and of the electro-osmotic pressure difference for an aqueous methanol/pyrex sintered disc system have been described at temperatures of 25, 30 and 35°C and at applied potentials up to 220 V. Summary: | Experiments for the measurement of electro-osmosis and of the electro-osmotic pressure difference for an aqueous methanol/pyrex sintered disc system have been described at temperatures of 25, 30 and 35°C and at applied potentials up to 220 V. The data are analysed by means of non-equilibrium thermo-dynamics. Attempts have been made to explore the domain of validity of linear phenomenological relations. The second-order coefficients have been estimated from measurements of electro-osmosis and electro-osmotic pressure difference. |
