Summary: | Beach litter, originating primarily from the city of Jakarta, has accumulated on shores of unmanaged islands in the Pulau Seribu Archipelago during the past decade. It has also spread during this time. Ten years ago, islands > 20 km from the mainland were unpolluted but there was significant pollution up to 45 km from it in 1995. Oil pollution is most severe on islands at the northern end of the chain. |
