Description
Summary:Néel's molecular field model is applied to an orthorhombic antiferromagnetic crystal and its magnetic and caloric behaviour is analysed. Special attention is given to the case that the external field is applied in the direction preferred for antiferromagnetic alignment. The transitions between the different antiferromagnetic states are considered as well as those to the paramagnetic state. Fig. 1 gives a simple construction to obtain magnetizations in the antiferromagnetic a-solution. The figures 3, 4, 6 and 7 give examples of the magnetizations and the corresponding Gibbs free energies as functions of the field for different solutions. The figures 5, 8 and 9 represent phase diagrams that may occur in the HT-plane.
