Summary: | A description is given of the effect of the ratio of degrees of polymerization of polyelectrolyte complex components upon the solubility and composition of polycomplex particles. It is shown that soluble non-stoichiometric complexes may be formed with high degrees of polymerization of polyelectrolyte excess. When the degree of polymerization of a component taken in excess is lower than the degree of polymerization of another component, only stoichiometric insoluble polycomplexes are formed. It is proposed to explain the effect of the ratio of degrees of polymerization of the components on the composition of complex particles on the basis of considering the entropy variation of the system when changing average composition of polyelectrolyte complex particles. |
