Transition metal complexes in organic synthesis, part 54. Improved total syntheses of the antibiotic alkaloids carbazomycin A and B

Considerably improved total syntheses of the carbazole antibiotics carbazomycin A and B are reported using a convergent iron-mediated one-pot construction of the carbazole framework by oxidative cyclization in the air. Description
Summary:Considerably improved total syntheses of the carbazole antibiotics carbazomycin A and B are reported using a convergent iron-mediated one-pot construction of the carbazole framework by oxidative cyclization in the air. Starting from the corresponding arylamines 1 the iron-mediated oxidative cyclization in the air was applied to highly convergent syntheses of carbazomycin A (3 steps, 65% overall yield) and B (4 steps, 55% overall yield).
