Description
Summary:Multilayer ceramic technology offers an excellent way to build compact electron multipliers with good performances. Equipping the entrance stage with a photocathode and the output stage with an appropriate anode structure, produces a compact mono- or multi-pixel photomultiplier. This paper describes the multiplier structure and presents the main results of the feasibility study. The dynamic characteristics of these new components and their ability to work in a magnetic field are demonstrated. The main advantages offered by the ceramic concept are listed both for users and manufacturers. The state of the art in each speciality ensures successful industrialisation without significant technical risk.
