Summary: | The Boeing version of the PARMELA code has been modified to compute the space charge effects for electron pulses with highly elliptical transverse cross-sections. A dynamic gridding routine has been added to allow good resolution for pulses as they evolve in time. The results from calculations for the chicane buncher in the 1 kW visible FEL beam line at Boeing indicate that the old circular algorithm of the SCHEFF subroutine overestimates the emittance growth in the bend plane by 30–40%. |
