Radical-copper hexanuclear arrays showing intermolecular ferromagnetic interactions

Hexanuclear arrays [CuX 2·(4PMNN)] 6 (X=Br, Cl; 4PMNN=4-pyrimidinyl nitronyl nitroxide) construct a perfect column perpendicular to the molecular plane and consequently a honeycomb-like channel structure is formed. The diameters of the channels are approximately 11.5 Å. The inner axial sites of the...

Description
Summary:Hexanuclear arrays [CuX 2·(4PMNN)] 6 (X=Br, Cl; 4PMNN=4-pyrimidinyl nitronyl nitroxide) construct a perfect column perpendicular to the molecular plane and consequently a honeycomb-like channel structure is formed. The diameters of the channels are approximately 11.5 Å. The inner axial sites of the copper ions remain vacant and are thought to be available for further coordination. The host–guest complexes using [CuCl 2·(4PMNN)] 6 were synthesized, and their ferromagnetic interactions enhanced by the guest inclusion. A possible supramolecular control of molecular magnetism is proposed.
