Description
Summary:Neutron irradiated zirconium hydride with fcc crystal lattice was investigated by methods of optical metallography, X-ray analysis and by measurements of density. The irradiation was performed in the core of a reactor with an intermediate neutron energy spectrum at fluences up to 3.9 × 10 25 n/m 2 and temperatures from 660 to 880 K. It was found that the microstructure of δ-ZrH changes due to recrystallization. Geometric size, shape and growth rate of new grains depend on their nucleation sites in initial crystallites. The activation energy of recrystallization was found to be 36.5 ± 1.3 kJ/mol. The possible explanations for recrystallization are discussed.
