Description
Summary:An analytical procedure is described for the determination of trace heavy metals in such process gases as gaseous hydrogen chloride, chlorine and trichloroborane by a modified electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETA-AAS) system. An automated sampling system allows trapping of analytes from a defined gas volume, and thus a short analysis time. Sample introduction is regulated by a magnetic valve, which is connected to the autoprobe of the spectrometer and to a control unit. Typical parameters, e.g., the temperature programme and the gas injection volume, were optimised. Calibration was carried out using standard addition of gaseous samples and standard solutions. Characteristic parameters, e.g. the detection limit, sensitivity and repeatability, have been determined. In addition to the quasi-on-line determination of elements, further investigations on indirect methods with a filter/impinger system are discussed.
