Structural, magnetic and superconducting properties of rare earth/superconductor multilayer films

Metallic multilayers consisting of rare earths and rare earth/Nb combinations have been grown by sputter deposition. Structural analysis of Nb/Er multilayers indicate less than 10A interdiffusion and that the texture of both the Nb and Er depend upon whether each is a single film or in a multilayer....

Description
Summary:Metallic multilayers consisting of rare earths and rare earth/Nb combinations have been grown by sputter deposition. Structural analysis of Nb/Er multilayers indicate less than 10A interdiffusion and that the texture of both the Nb and Er depend upon whether each is a single film or in a multilayer. Measurements of T C in multilayers of Nb/Er and Nb/Tm in comparison with Nb/Lu show the effect of magnetic and non-magnetic materials on the superconducting proximity effect in a superlattice geometry. The results of a variety of structural and physical analysis techniques are presented.
