Nutritional performance of Damascus and Jamnapari crossbred growing male goats

Thirty-four growing male goats, 18 Damascus×Baladi (DB) and 16 Jamnapari×Baladi (JB) crossbred goats were used to study the effect of nutrient digestibility, nitrogen balance, growth rate and feed efficiency. Results indicated that both groups had similar kid birth weight. Growth rate from birth to...

Description
Summary:Thirty-four growing male goats, 18 Damascus×Baladi (DB) and 16 Jamnapari×Baladi (JB) crossbred goats were used to study the effect of nutrient digestibility, nitrogen balance, growth rate and feed efficiency. Results indicated that both groups had similar kid birth weight. Growth rate from birth to weaning was significantly higher in JB than DB (160 vs. 149 g/d). Throughout the fattening period, DB showed relatively higher growth rate than JB (120 vs. 112 g/d). Growing DB converted feed more efficient than JB. The digestibility trial showed higher organic matter, crude fiber and nitrogen-free extract digestibilities in DB in comparison with JB. Crude protein digestibility gave similar values.
