Electrochemical studies associated with the micellization of dodecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (DOTAB) in aqueous solutions of ethanol and 1-propanol
In this work an ion-selective electrode (ISE) sensitive to dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DOTAB) has been fabricated and physical parameters of DOTAB have been determined in the presence of different salt and alcohol (ethanol and 1-propanol) concentration. Summary: | In this work an ion-selective electrode (ISE) sensitive to dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DOTAB) has been fabricated and physical parameters of DOTAB have been determined in the presence of different salt and alcohol (ethanol and 1-propanol) concentration. The free monomer concentration of DOTAB (
m
1), degree of dissociation of surfactant (α), salt effect in aqueous solution and the equilibrium constant of premicellar aggregation have been investigated using potentiometric technique. Finally the degree of alcohol attachment was determined. These values indicate that for each surfactant cation (DOTA
+) approximately three ethanol molecules and two propanol molecules can be incorporate in the micelle. |
