Summary: | Review of concurrent medications is an integral aspect of preoperative preparation. Optimal management of concurrent diseases and medications in the perioperative period requires understanding of their interactions with anaesthesia and surgery. Anaesthetists should recognize the relative risks and benefits, and consider when to continue or discontinue concurrent medications in the perioperative period. Adverse drug interactions can often be minimized by selection of appropriate anaesthetic drugs and techniques. Unrecognized drug interactions are potentially hazardous. |
