1 was accomplished via diastereomeric salt formation with cinchonine. The absolute stereochemistry of the phosphonic ester products was deduced from asymmetric sulfoxidation experiments and confirmed by chemical correlation with (
S)-(−)-2-methylsulfinylaniline.
